Akwa United’s coach, Abdul Maikaba says he’s very impressed with his team’s exciting kid sensation, Aniekeme Asuquo describing the youngster as one with a great future.

Speaking at the post match conference moments after his team, Akwa United defeated Enugu Rangers by two unreplied goals, Maikaba said with players like Asuquo coming into the team, he has no fears about dealing with the exit of influential midfielder Afeez Aremu who left Akwa United recently for Europe and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi who is away with the Super Eagles at the ongoing CHAN Tournament in Morrocco.

Against Rangers, Asuquo was a delight to watch, pulling the strings from the middle and even frequently running rings round the visitors’ backline at will. It came as no surprise when he deservedly bagged the man of the match award.

“Aniekeme Asuquo is a young boy with a big heart. Immediately I spotted him play for Akwa Starlets last season, I told my Chairman (Paul Bassey) that we must do everything to have him. Infact, I watched all his matches last season with Akwa Starlets in the NNL.

“You could see his wonderful performance today and I can say he is going to be a key player for us because being new in the npfl, opponents don’t really know him and what he can do.

“All he needs to do is to stay focused and disciplined and his future will be bright”, Maikaba said.

In the matchday1 of the new npfl season, Akwa United, playing on the lush green turf of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium needed two goals, scored in each half to send Rangers back to Enugu empty handed.

Rangers, now under ex- Sunshine and Enyimba tactician Gbenga Ogunbote found no answers to the goals of debutants-Kelly Kester and Dennis Nya who just joined Akwa United from Enyimba and Lobi Stars.
